About the Chef

My name is Chennay Jordaan. I have lived in the Zambezi River Valley, on the shores of Lake Kariba in Zambia my entire life - and feel fortunate to call this beautiful country home.

I am at my most content when far away from the hustle and bustle of city life, somewhere deep in the African bush surrounded by nature and animals, tending to a smoky Mopane wood fire whilst cooking delicious, hearty, beautiful food for those around me.

In 2007 I graduated with a Diploma in Global Cuisine from the Fusion School of Cookery in Durban, South Africa. I went on to complete six months of intensive restaurant work before returning to Zambia to spend the next ten years working in our tourism and hospitality industry – from the five-star Stanley Safari Lodge in Livingstone to Mukambi Safari Lodge and Busanga Plains Camp, located in the northern-most reaches of the Kafue National Park.

In 2018, after a year spent working abroad on a private motor yacht in the Mediteranean, Africa was calling; I decided to return home to pursue and combine my two great passions – cooking and spending time in the bush.

My food is honest and authentic - gourmet bush cooking at its best - bursting with flavour, freshness, creativity and love, it begs to be devoured!

Take me with you on your adventure; allow me to turn the food you eat on Safari into lifelong memories of the remarkable times you had in Africa.

Why you should book a Chef

Creating delicious, memorable food on Safari can be extremely challenging - due the to sheer remoteness of many prime safari locations, kitchens are extremely basic, skilled cooks few and far between and ingredients limited.

By opting for a private Chef who possesses the skills, knowledge, tools and most importantly of all - passion - of going off the grid and into the heart of Africa’s greatest wildernesses to cook for you, you can rest assured that not only will the food you eat on Safari exceed your expectations and delight your culinary senses - it will also feed and nourish your soul as much as your time spent in the wilds of Africa will.

“Eating is not merely a material pleasure. Eating well gives a spectacular joy to life and contributes immensely to goodwill and happy companionship. It is of great importance to the morale”

— Elsa Schiaparelli
